Our Wines
We believe that wine captures a place at a moment in time.
We farm our grapes and make our wines to create vintages that reflect the year, the land, and the heart behind them.
2024 Malbec Rosé
Our Malbec Rosé has converted more than a few Rosé “non-believers” and the 2024 vintage makes the most compelling case yet. Our 2024 Malbec Rosé is completely dry, with notes of raspberry sorbet and fresh strawberries. Equally enjoyed by red wine drinkers and Rosé lovers alike, this Rosé is as versatile as they come.

2023 was the vintage we have been waiting for. A wet winter with over 40" of rain brought new life and spurred incredible growth in our vineyard. The increased soil moisture coupled with an ideal summer that was neither too hot nor too cool. This allowed for even ripening and a harvest that was not only incredibly high quality but was also our most abundant to date.
-
While our Malbec vineyards are still recuperating from the frost damage of 2022, we have been forced to look elsewhere to find quality organic Malbec for our Rosé production. This search led us to Split Rock Vineyard in Mendocino County. Farmed by the Mattern Family, Split Rock sits at about 600' elevation on Talmage Bench. From the first time we visited we knew it was a perfect fit for us as the Mattern's commitment to producing the highest quality organic fruit made it more than worth the 6 hour drive from Tira Nanza.

The best things come from following your heart, even when it leads away from the beaten path. This was definitely the case with our Malbec Rosé. Malbec is normally used strictly for red wine production, but as we sampled our Malbec vineyard we became progressively more convinced we should try to make a Rosé. In the end, our use of Malbec makes for a unique Rosé that is just as comfortable on the dinner table as it is on the beach.

2024 Viognier
The 2024 vintage brought us not only our best ever crop of Viognier but maybe our best wine yet as well. We split the vineyard block in two, fermenting and aging the fruit from the older vines in a tulip shaped concrete tank and fermenting and aging the fruit from the younger vines in stainless steel. The resulting blend is a full-bodied wine that exudes intensely perfumed floral aromas, stone fruit flavors, and a captivating freshness.

In 2021, we transitioned our Viognier vineyard to dry-farming for both the quality of the fruit and the long-term health of the vineyard. Because they weren’t expecting a weekly irrigation, our plants were well prepared to handle a warm and dry growing season and produce beautiful fruit with very little dehydration. True to the varietal, this wine beautifully expresses a perfumed nose of white flowers and concentrated flavors of fresh peach and apricot.
-
Perched at 1800’ above sea level on a steep south facing hillside, our Viognier vineyard is currently our highest planting. Nearly every afternoon, the breeze blows in from the Monterey Bay, moderating the temperature and helping the fruit keep its freshness and acidity.
-
It was the Viognier that first drew us to this property. The quality of the fruit produced by these vines combined with our climate and granitic soils of our hillside instilled in us the belief that we could produce Northern Rhone wines of enormous potential here. This year’s Viognier is no exception.

2024 ‘Offshoot’ Vermentino

2023 Cabernet Sauvignon
Silky smooth and with all the elegance and freshness of our previous vintages but with more structure and a power all its own, our 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to both the incredible 2023 vintage and to our commitment to continued improvement. With enticing red fruit aromas, enhanced by the inclusion of 10% Merlot, this Cab spent 18 months aging in French Oak (75% neutral/once used, 25% new) and is absolutely ready to enjoy right now, but those patient enough to cellar a few bottles will reap the rewards as it continues to develop in bottle.
Fermented in Stainless Steel | Aged in 100% French Oak Barrels | 14% ABV

Coming on the heels of a 2022 vintage where we were only able to make 20 cases of our estate cab due to frost damage, we weren’t sure what 2023 held in store for us. In the end, it was a fantastic, low drama vintage. A rainy winter was a boost to our crop yields and overall vineyard health, and a long warm summer made for picture perfect ripening. It’s not too enough that high quantity and high quality overlap, but when they do it’s a thing of beauty.
-
Our Cabernet Sauvignon is made from a mixture of 1984 and 1998 plantings spread across our lower hillside at about 1000’. This wine comes from our only own-rooted vines as the sandy soils allow planting without rootstocks. Our climate brings enough heat to ripen Cabernet but our cool nights maintain acidity and give the wine an inviting freshness.
-
Cabernet Sauvignon was the first varietal planted on our Ranch, almost 40 years ago. We seek to honor the history of this land by crafting a cab truly representative of Cachagua’s potential to create wines of distinction. Our Cabernet Sauvignon balances rich fruit with a brightness and elegance that breaks the mold on what is expected from a California Cabernet.

2022 ‘Offshoot’ Cabernet Sauvignon
As result of our smaller 2022 Tira Nanza Cabernet harvest, we decided to experiment with some local, organically farmed Cab from a nearby Cachagua vineyard. The result is our 2022 Offshoot Cab. Where our Tira Nanza Cab is all about finesse and elegance, this Offshoot Cab is all about power. Dark-fruited and supple with subtle notes of baking spices, this wine is sure to be a hit with lovers of big, jammy reds.
Fermented in Stainless Steel & aged in 100% French Oak Barrels | 14% ABV

In 2022, we lost almost our entire Cabernet Harvest to a mid-May frost that sat right in the lower part of the Cachagua Valley. For a time, we were unsure whether we’d have any fruit to pick. In the end we were able to harvest about 1 ton of Cab and Merlot from our highest elevation rows that were untouched by the frost. We used these grapes to make our 2022 Tira Nanza Cab, which will be a limited release. As result of our smaller harvest, we decided to experiment with some local, organically farmed Cab from another Cachagua vineyard. The result is our 2024 Offshoot Cab.
-
We sourced our 2022 Offshoot from an organically farmed local vineyard found just across the valley from our property in Cachagua.
-
We created our Offshoot label to experiment with unique fruit sourced from single vineyards outside of our estate that we find exceptional. Each year, we will release one new Offshoot wine as we continue to create new, exciting, and fresh wines to taste and explore with you all.
